He was born in Notasulga, AL on May 8, 1943 to Beuna Norris Whitman and Herman Grimes Whitman. Tommy grew up going to Notasulga United Methodist Church and graduated from Macon County High School. Tommy married the love of his life, his high school sweetheart, Rita on June 2, 1963. Tommy and Rita were married for 53 years. They built their lives together in Notasulga where they raised their two children, Allen and Felicia. They both retired with a move to Lake Martin. Over the years, their house was filled with family and friends, everyone was always welcomed.

During Tommy’s life, he spent most of his career working with the Bentley’s and Auburn University. He was also a trained barber and would always pull out his shears to cut family member’s hair if they asked. Tommy loved to be outside. Most free daylight hours he would spend at his farm, working in the garden or just spending time in the yard. If he was inside, his loved old western films would be playing.
