Thelma Jolanda “Jo” Yancey Obituary

Thelma Jolanda “Jo” Yancey, 59, of Tallassee, Alabama, passed into the arms of Jesus March 28, 2023, at her home in Tallassee, Alabama. 

 

A celebration of life will be held Saturday, April 1, 2023, at 1:00 pm at the Family Life Center in Central, Alabama.  Pastor Wesley Syfrett officiating.  

Jo was born in Montgomery, Alabama, to Presley “Bill” and Peggy Cousins on July 2, 1963.  She spent most of her childhood in Montgomery and Eclectic, Alabama, where she graduated high school in 1981. 

 

Jo is survived by her husband Greg Yancey; three daughters Wendi Little (Timothy Osborne) of Tallassee, Alabama, Elizabeth Macon (Nick) of Tallassee, Alabama, and Angela Reese (Joshua) of Defuniak Springs, Florida; two step sons Jamie Yancey of Texas, and Jeffrey Yancey of Florida; and a step daughter Andie Yancey of Chicago, Illinois.  She also leaves behind 10 grandchildren: Curtis Jones, Ethan Jones, Izabella Macon, Nicholas Reese, Faith Reese, Hunter Little, James Little, Joshua Yancey, James Yancey, and Jaime Yancey.

She is also survived by her brothers Presley Cousins Jr. (Pam), Michial Cousins (Joyce), her sisters Irene Holcomb, Norine Williams, Melissa Czerpak (Kenneth), Michelle Waite (Jeff) and a host of nieces and nephews that loved her dearly. 

 

She was preceded in death by her parents Bill and Peggy Cousins, her brother Burl Cousins, her niece Shea Cousins, and her first husband Curtis Brooks.

We would like to extend a special thanks to Ivy Creek Hospice Care and the nurses the nursing staff of Flowers Hospital for the loving care that they took with Jo during the last two weeks.
