Samuel Clifford Slaton Obituary

Samuel Clifford Slaton (Sam), 79, of Fairhope, AL, died peacefully in his home Sunday, November 28, 2021, with his Life Long Loving Companion, Linda McKee, by his side.

Sam was born the third son of John and Ruby Slaton on December 28, 1941, in Tuskegee, AL. As a child, Sam had a dream of flight –to be a “Rocketman.” Following in his father’s footsteps as a pilot, Sam would achieve this goal by becoming a US Navy Pilot and a Captain with TWA airlines, where he would spend his career ultimately retiring to Fairhope.

Sam graduated from Troy State College in 1964 with a BS in History and Psychology. He served as a pilot in the US Navy from 1964-1969 and flew a Lockheed P-3 Orion on Soviet submarine tracking missions.

Sam began flying commercial planes in 1969, with Trans World Airlines (TWA) rising to the rank of Captain in 1997, retiring in 2001. He lived an adventurous life and could tell you a story about every airport in the US!

Sam married Ann Shelton 1967- 1993 and Mary Teresa Wacker- Terrie 1993-1998.

He was a man of wit and intelligence. Sam never knew a stranger and would always make you feel welcome. He would make you laugh and had a passion for Frank Sinatra.

Sam was an active member at the Fairhope Yacht Club throughout his life, where he enjoyed sailing the Panacea II.

He was predeceased by his Father and Mother, Brothers John and Hunter Slaton.
