Ruth Janelle Dyson Daniel

Ruth Janelle Dyson Daniel, 89, of Navarre, Florida passed away on January 27, 2023 after a brief illness, and is smiling and laughing in the arms of Jesus and her beloved husband of 62 years, Gerald Lee.

Janelle was an only child born on September 4, 1933, in Society Hill, Alabama, to Thomas Wheeler Dyson and Alice Ruth Lawson Dyson.  She was baptized at the Society Hill Baptist Church, and was later a member of the First Baptist Church of Tuskegee, Alabama, First Baptist Church of Auburn, Alabama, and the First Baptist Church of Navarre, Florida.

Janelle’s family moved to Tuskegee in 1946, where she attended Tuskegee High School and met Gerald Lee Daniel.  They were married in Russell County, Alabama in 1950, and began working side by side at Daniel’s Clothing in Tuskegee until their retirement.

Through Daniel’s Clothing, Janelle and Gerald Lee became active in community service throughout Tuskegee and the Macon County area, touching the lives of their customers, employees, and everyone they met.  Their social life was dominated by their care and commitment to friends, family members, and total strangers.  If anyone in the community needed assistance, Janelle and Gerald Lee were always there with a helping hand.  Their actions, deeds, and thoughts were for others, and everyone they knew felt welcomed as a member of the family.  Janelle was everyone’s Mama, and her kitchen table was always full of friends and family alike.

In 1995, Janelle and Gerald Lee retired to Navarre, Florida where she lived the rest of her life. Although she always enjoyed reading and spending time with her family and friends from church, her favorite pastime was watching Auburn sports. When asked, Janelle considered her greatest accomplishment in life to be her children.

Janelle was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald Lee Daniel in 2013.  She is survived by her children, Renee Culverhouse (Charles), Leigh Brown (Charles), Gerry Daniel, Tommy Daniel (Laura Wright); her grandchildren Danielle Coburn (Derek), Lee Daniel (Stefanie Self), Paul Daniel (Laura Hargrove), Chris Daniel (Kayla Reid); and seven great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be Saturday, February 4 at 10:00AM CST at Corbitt’s Funeral Home in Tuskegee, and graveside services will be at 11:00AM CST at Tuskegee Cemetery. Dennis Daniel will officiate. Pallbearers are Lee Daniel, Paul Daniel, Chris Daniel, Doug Daniel, Leonard Thomas, and Dale Looney.
