Robert Wayne Barfield

Robert Wayne Barfield, of Shorter, Alabama, born September 20, 1940, passed away peacefully Saturday, March 1, 2025, at the age of 84. He is preceded in death by his parents Finton Everett Barfield and Mary Louise Barfield (Payne), brother Doug Barfield, and daughter-in-law Kenya Jo Barfield. He is survived by his beautiful and patient wife Sarah Jean Barfield (McGhar); daughter Pamela Barfield Chambers (Keith); two sons Robert Wayne “Bobby” Barfield, Jr. and Keith Story; granddaughter Kaela Armstrong (Josh); grandsons Kade Chambers (Breanna), Robert Wayne “Robby” Barfield, III, and Joseph “Joey” Barfield; great grandchildren Karter and Cheyenne Armstrong; his sisters Patsy Riley and Janice Lindsay (Larry); and Ryan Medlen. Mr. Barfield was a member of the US Army and National Guard where he was named honorary Lt. Colonel by Governor George Wallace. Wayne was also a plumber and steam fitter/pipe fitter with the Local 52 union out of Montgomery, Alabama, where he finally retired as Union Hall business manager. In his down time, he was an avid hunter and big Alabama Crimson Tide fan and, most importantly, a full time “Pop” that loved his grands and great grands dearly. Visitation and funeral services will be held Thursday, March 6, 2025, at the Barfield Cemetery at 755 County Road 40, Shorter, Alabama. Visitation will be at 10:00 am followed by a graveside funeral at 11:00 am.
