Richard Wiley Dougherty, 72, of Shorter, died Thursday, September 2, 2021, at Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital in Montgomery. Graveside services will be Friday, September 10, 2021, at Cubahatchie Baptist Cemetery at 2:00 P.M. with Jarrod Williams officiating. Mr. Dougherty is survived by his daughters Leigh Ann Dougherty (Clay) Harrell and Jennifer Dougherty Pouncy; his grandchildren Dustin (Sydney) Dougherty, Kaden Pouncy, Campbell Loughridge, and Ella Loughridge; and his special cousin Jimmie (Jack) Dicks. He was preceded in death by is father, James Dougherty and his mother, Mary (Johnson) Dougherty. Mr. Dougherty was in the cattle business all of his life working for various stockyards, hauling cattle for people and managing several cattle farms. He was the head herdsman at the Auburn University Beef Research Center for 15 years. He dedicated his life to the love of being a cowboy. He was a passionate father, grandfather and friend. Visitation will be at his daughter Jennifer's house at 76 Jordan Ln., Shorter, AL, prior to the service beginning at 12:30 P.M. Pallbearers will be Jacob Dicks, Jim Dicks, Tucker Johnson, Scott Garrett, L.B. Cox, Mike Bryant, Bill Bryant, and Clay Perry. Honorary pallbearers will be Clevy Johnson, Bill Johnson, Jack Dicks, Danny Dean, David Garrett, James Walter Collier, Rudolph Burks, Randy Adair, Lee Pickett, Gene Cox, Joe Clark, and Bo Campbell.
