Mellard V. Young

Mellard V. Young, 93, of Notasulga passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 29, 2023 surrounded by his family. He is survived by his two sons Jeffery (Sandra) Young and Terry (Sheila) Young; his grandchildren Scott (Jenny) Young, Casey (Natalie) Young, Stephanie (Joshua) Graham, Stacie (Austin) LeCroy, Hope (Andy) Chamness, and Shawn (Mindy) Worley, twelve great-grandchildren; one great great-granddaughter; and Brenda Humphries Hood and Janice Harrison who were like daughters to him for many years; as well as many other family and friends.

He is preceded in death by his wife Nellie Young, his parents Homer G. and Ethel Young, his step-mother Virginia Gipson Young, and his brother Willard Young.

He served his church Antioch United Methodist for over 70 years, which he and his father built together. He worked alongside his father for many years building houses and farming. He enjoyed being outside and was always working on something. He loved his family, especially his wife of 72 years.

Funeral services will be held at Antioch United Methodist Church on Monday, April 3, 2023, at 11:00 AM, and burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will occur one hour prior to services beginning. His grandsons Scott Young, Casey Young, Drew Young, Joshua Graham, Austin LeCroy and Shawn Worley will serve as his pall bearers.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Antioch Methodist Cemetery Fund or the Bethany House.
