Mary Lois Ledbetter Obituary

Mrs. Mary Lois Ledbetter, 77, passed away on January 17, 2022, at Bethany House in Auburn.

Mary Lois was married to the love of her life Junior Ledbetter for almost 60 years.  She loved the Lord fervently and was a lifelong servant at Salem Macon Baptist Church.  She held numerous positions including church clerk, Sunday school director, singing in the choir, Sunday school teacher, VBS leader, and youth leader.  She was also passionate about the WMU and the Operation Christmas Child Shoebox ministry.  She was devoted to her family and called it her legacy to cook Sunday lunch every week. Everyone knew their presence was expected and friends were welcome.  Mary Lois was especially proud of all three of her children and their accomplishments, most especially that they all graduated from college. She retired from the Auburn University Vet School after more than 30 years of service but didn’t really retire.  She filled her time with activities such as volunteering at East Alabama Medical Center, lunches with her husband or friends, water aerobics at HealthPlus Fitness, and doing crafts.  She loved watching her grandchildren in their activities through high school and then on through college as four of her grandchildren were college athletes.  It goes without saying that if you knew Mary Lois, you know that she bled Orange and Blue.  She went over 20 years without missing a football game and was a regular attender at Auburn Gymnastic meets, basketball games, and baseball/softball games.

In the last few years, her family grew as two of her grandchildren married and then she was blessed with four great-grandchildren.

Mary Lois was preceded in death by her parents Grover Monroe Wilkerson and Mary Flossie Wilkerson, and her infant daughter Kimbi Delean Ledbetter.  She is survived by her husband Hosia Lee Ledbetter, Jr., her daughter Jamie Ledbetter Davis (Glen), son Marty Ledbetter (Stefanie), and son Monty Ledbetter (Christy); grandchildren Drew Davis (Kayra), Kayla Davis Laster (John), Greg Davis, Sage Ledbetter, Marlee Ledbetter, Silas Ledbetter, Jordan Rhodes, and Dylan Ledbetter; great-grandchildren James Hunter Davis, Andrew Ridge Davis,Vivian Lea Laster, and Hayes Ryan Laster; her sister Ollie Jean Hagans, and brother Tony Wilkerson (Tricia).
