Mary Frances Story

Mary Frances Story, formerly of Tuskegee, Alabama, passed away Monday, October 23, 2023, in Auburn, Alabama.

Mary Frances was born on March 10, 1932, in Macon County, Alabama, to the late Henry Lester and Vera Stillwell.  She was predeceased by her loving husband, Thomas C. Story (Tommy), and her brothers and sisters, Helen Hornsby, William Stillwell, Walker Stillwell, Lloyd Stillwell, Jimmy Stillwell, and twins Ellen Railey and Helen Catlin.

Mary Frances is survived by her two sons, Phil Story (Daria) of Auburn, AL, and Earl Story (Dana) of Chattanooga, TN, and daughters Linda Story Newsome (Glen) of Society Hill, AL, and Nancy Story Griggs (Mike) of Little Texas, AL.   Grandchildren are Brittany Story Eldridge (Steve), Jeremy Earl Story (Bailey), Amanda Newsome Huff (Ryan), Mich Griggs (Kelly), and Katie Lynn Griggs.  She had three great-grandchildren: Mason Huff, Barrett Eldridge, and Henry Griggs.  Mary Frances had many nieces and nephews who were like her children as well.  She had wonderful new and old friends, many of whom had been friends all her life.   

She was a graduate of Tuskegee High School.  She worked in the A & P Grocery store and at Auburn University for most of her career.   She was a long-time Williams Chapel Methodist and Union Christian Church member where she was an Elder Emeritus and a long-term board member of the Little Texas Community Cemetery.  She lived in Tuskegee much of her life but moved to Auburn in 2008.   She was faithful to her Lord and Savior and her faith grew stronger the older she got.  She loved to be in God’s word, reading and studying His word.  The entire family and friends knew her as a tremendous prayer warrior.

Her hobbies included attending her children’s and grandchildren’s athletic events, church activities, gardening, Atlanta Braves baseball, and traveling.  Her favorite activity of all was spending time with her family, and friends (old and new).   

Funeral services will be in Little Texas on Friday, October 27, at 11:00 a.m. at Union Christian Church.  Interment to follow at Little Texas Community Cemetery.  Visitation will be at Corbitt’s Funeral Home in Tuskegee, AL on Thursday, October 26, from 6:00-8:00 PM. Pallbearers will be Mich Griggs, Jeremy Story, Ryan Huff, Katie Lynn Griggs, and Gene Cole.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial gifts be made to Little Texas Cemetery or your favorite charity.
