Leanne Griggs, 68, of Opelika, passed away peacefully on September 1, 2024, at East Alabama Medical Center. Her beloved husband Charles Monroe Griggs, Jr. “Big Daddy” and other family members and a couple of friends were there as well. Leanne’s parents John W. and Mary Ruth Hatchett have gone on to their heavenly home along with her sister Joy Williams and her brother Bubba Hatchett.
Leanne attended Valley High School, and she attended Southern Union State Community College where she received her degree and was crowned their Homecoming Queen. She was able to travel to a few other countries, but was always happy to return to “Sweet Home Alabama.” She worked for University Agency in Auburn for 35 years as an agent.
Charles and Leanne have one son Jonathan Charles Griggs and seven nieces and two nephews. Leanne and Charles are raising their miracle baby Leanna Griggs. When she met and married Charles Griggs, little did she know how her life would be forever changed. She turned in her high-heel shoes for boots. She turned in her sandals for galoshes. She took up hunting all game, fishing, camping, hunting Indian artifacts, and also mining for precious minerals. Leanne could bait her own hook, remove the fish from the line, ride shotgun in a boat with a live alligator, and loved spending time on the riverbank where they enjoyed playing with children young and old.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, September 10, 2024, at 2:00 pm at the Little Texas Tabernacle. Burial will follow in Little Texas Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the Tabernacle beginning at 1:00 pm.
