Karen Denise Davis Obituary

Karen Denise Davis, age 58, died peacefully at home on Monday, December 21, 2020, after an extended illness.

Karen was born on November 2, 1962, as the youngest daughter of Irving and Lorraine Davis.  She grew up in Tuskegee and was a member of Macon Academy’s Class of 1981.  She then attended Troy University where she was a member of Chi Omega sorority and graduated with a Sociology degree in 1985.  Karen later attended Southern Union and found her life’s work in caring for others.  She became a nurse and worked at Columbus Regional Hospital but her true love was for children so she later became a nanny.  Many children were lucky to have been well loved and nurtured because she was in their lives.

Karen loved her family too. She had a family tree that she worked on for years and would often share the updates on what she had found in her research about the Davis and Vance families. Karen lived in the Little Texas Community, where she was surrounded by friends and a church community who were like family to her.

In addition to her family, her community and caring for others, Karen had two great passions in life: ghosts and the lottery.  These passions reveal Karen’s true nature - which was one of optimism.  Karen loved people and her enthusiasm and optimism were infectious.  If you had the pleasure to know Karen, you likely received a lottery ticket from her as a gift at some time or another.  She was often making plans for what she would do when she won the lottery but she would have been just as thrilled if anyone she knew would have won it as well.

Karen also loved ghost stories.  She was a member of many ghost hunting societies and would often visit local historical sites that were touted as being inhabited by spirits.  Karen knew that there was more to life than the day to day minutia.  Her search for spirits was an ongoing reminder that we are on this earth but for a season and that the best is yet to come.

Karen is survived by her loving mother Lorraine Davis, her niece Lauren Ferriola (Kris), and many cousins and friends.  She was also blessed to have two special caretakers for her and her mother later in life Bobbie Jean Perry and Roxeanne Knorr. Her father Irving Davis and sister Susan Davis preceded her in death.

A celebration of Karen’s life will be held on Tuesday, December 29, 2020, at 1:00 P.M. at Tuskegee Cemetery.

Friends and family have shared their relationship to show their support.
