Janice Taunton Griggs, 77, received a victor’s crown to lay at the feet of her Savior on the afternoon of Tuesday, August 22, 2023. She entered into her heavenly rest as family surrounded her with love and sang over her through tears of sorrow celebrating her victory and their loss.
Janice was born on September 14, 1945, to the late Jesse Awyer (J.A.) and Clara Pless Taunton. As a preacher’s daughter, she and her family moved around the state of Alabama, serving two different times at Salem Macon Baptist Church in Notasulga, where as a child she met her future husband Charles. Janice graduated from Talladega High School and earned a Bachelor’s from Samford University. She and Charles were married and built a life, home and family full of love and laughter. With three small children, she earned a Master’s degree from Auburn University and worked for many years as a school psychometrist with the Elmore County School System before retirement.
Janice was known for her kind heart, listening smile and servant nature. She was an expert in putting others before self and Christ above all. Her love of Scripture was legendary, and the way she loved her family and friends was beyond compare. She leaves behind three children and their spouses, who she treated like her own: Benjamin Charles (Trista), David Daniel (Beth), and Janella Griggs Martinez (JL). She will never be forgotten by her seven incredible grandchildren: Shelby (Zac), Taylor, Tannon, Zoe, Avery, Stella and Jesse.
Visitation will take place on Saturday, August 26, 2023, from 10:00 A.M. - 11:00 A.M. at Salem Macon Baptist Church in Notasulga, AL. Funeral service will immediately follow with Pastor Greg Pate officiating, and Pastor Bobby Carpenter leading the graveside service.
Flowers will be accepted, or donations in Janice's name may be made to Salem Macon Baptist Church, 4647 Tallapoosa St, Notasulga, AL 36866.
