Jacky Brown Obituary

Jacky Darven Brown, 82, of Mobile, died Saturday, April 29, 2023, at Mobile Infirmary. Funeral services will be Thursday, May 4, 2023, at Church in the Pines at 2:00 P.M. with Jim Ray officiating. Burial will follow in Salem Macon Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be just prior to the service beginning at 1:00 P.M.

Jacky was born Oct. 28, 1940, in Skinnerton, AL. He graduated from Beatrice High School in 1958 where he played basketball, baseball, and football. After graduation he worked in the printing and paper business where he was one of the first people in the state to operate a four-color printing press. He later worked selling fine and wholesale printing papers, where he often had over a million dollars in sales. After leaving the paper business, he and his wife started Lake Breeze Realty. His most rewarding career was the 27 years he spent volunteering with Children's Harbor, where he was also the greeter for both the Church in the Pines and Children's Chapel. The fact that he never met a stranger, his willingness to help anyone in need and his love of children made him a natural. He never wanted a child to be unhappy or excluded. He never saw a child's limitations, but only their potential, especially those with special needs. He would often calm upset and crying children by folding dollar bills into bow ties and if you ever received one of these dollars you were indeed special to him.
In his spare time, he enjoyed woodworking and carpentry, riding on his tractor, playing golf, watching Alabama play football, spending time on the lake with family and friends, and traveling with his wife in their RV.

He was preceded in death by his mother Clatie Mae Mooney, sister Nell Luker and brother Johnny Rae Moony.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years Charlotte W. Brown, and son Alec "Jay" Brown, as well as numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Chad Abrams, Johnny Brown, Kirby Cramton, David Jackson, Steve Luker, and Rhett Smith.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Children’s Harbor or the Alzheimer’s Association.

Friends and family have shared their relationship to show their support.
