Dorothy (Riddle) Reynolds Obituary

Dorothy (Riddle) Reynolds of Macon, GA passed away peacefully on April 19, 2023, at the age of 94.  Born November 9, 1928 in Opelika, AL, Dorothy was the daughter of the late Sidney Riddle and Ethel (Belvin) Riddle.  She is preceded in death by two brothers James and Roy Riddle and one sister Faye Ellen Sheppard.  She is survived by one brother Robert Riddle (Charlene) of Opelika, AL along with several nieces and nephews that she loved dearly.

Dorothy was married to Henry Hunter Reynolds from 1947 until his death in 1979.  They had three children together, raising them in Tuskegee, AL.  She is survived by two daughters Linda Cook (Jerry) of Macon, GA and Susan Peeples (Terry) of Jackson, GA.  She is preceded in death by her son Henry Hunter Reynolds from Montgomery, AL.  She later married B.B. Spratlin in 2001 until his death in 2004.  Dorothy is also survived by 8 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild, each of whom she dearly and proudly loved.  The grandchildren are Ryan Reynolds, Shane Reynolds (Romona), Jaymie Reynolds (Kat), Brad Cook (Michelle), Lyndsey Cook Wheeler (Blake), Beth Peeples Park (Edward), David Peeples (Allyson), and John Peeples (Yoxana).  She treasured every moment she got to visit and talk with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.  Family was very important to her.

Dorothy was an avid traveler, traveling to every state in the continental U.S. and several foreign countries to include Germany, Ireland, Hungary, England, Israel, Czechoslovakia, Mexico, and Canada.

Dorothy worked at the Macon County Probate Office in Alabama for 20 years until her retirement.  She also owned and operated a 930 acre farm with 300 acres of marginal crop land planted in pine trees.  She had many accomplishments in her lifetime to include being elected as the first woman President of the Alabama Association of Conservation Districts.  She was recognized as a conservation leader in the state and received various awards and recognition.  In 1989, she was the District 10 winner of Outstanding Tree Farmer of the Year.

She was a member of the Tuskegee First United Methodist Church and later the Fort Davis Methodist Church where she was Treasurer for 20 years.  She had many lifelong friends in Tuskegee and Fort Davis that she continued to stay in touch with even after moving away.  She moved to John Wesley Villas in Macon, GA, in 2013 to live closer to her daughters.

At her request, she wanted everyone to know how much she dearly loved her family and friends and that she had a happy, happy life!  She will see you later!
