Delores Cyr Reynolds, age 89, passed away on July 26, 2022, in Opelika, Alabama, at Arbor Springs. She was born September 27, 1932, to Patrick and Hilda Cyr in Caribou, Maine.
Delores graduated from Caribou High School when she was 16 years and went on to achieve her Master of Education from Auburn University. She taught for over 40 years, mostly as the fourth gradeteacher at Notasulga High School, Notasulga, Alabama. If you went through the 4th grade at Notasulga, you were taught by Mrs. Reynolds. Although she was known for her strict discipline in the classroom, she also was known for taking her kids on field trips and extracurricular activities. She thought every child had something special and it was up to her to find out what their special talent was. Besides teaching, she worked nights and weekends at Dillard’s department store for 17 years.
She loved playing bridge and later in life was an avid square dancer. She was a volunteer at Bethany House hospice program and East Alabama Medical Center and was always willing to help others. She was a devout Catholic attending St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church in Auburn, Alabama whenever she could.
Delores was preceded in death by her father Patrick and mother Hilda, her sisters Patsy Cyr and Ethel Mae Higgins and her brother Robert Cyr. She is survived by three children Ted “Scooter” (Sharon) Reynolds, Patti Reynolds, and Clay Reynolds; her sister, Carla (Richard) Grant and her sister-in-law Margaret Cyr; seven grandchildren Gabe (Sharon) Reynolds, TJ (Julia) Reynolds, Sierra (Whit) Jerkins, David Reynolds, Amelia Reynolds, Tyler (Miriam) Reynolds, and Alex Somppi; and three great grandchildren Clover Reynolds, Briar Reynolds, and Lily Reynolds. She was “Grandma” to her grandchildren and loved to see them whenever she could.
Her children would like to thank the staff at Arbor Springs and Southern Care Hospice for the professionalism and kindness shown to their Mom on a daily basis.
Delores will have a graveside memorial service at Auburn Memorial Park Cemetery located on 1000 East Samford Avenue, Auburn, AL 36830 on Saturday morning, August 13, 2022, at 10:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, Auburn, AL.
