Billy Wayne Garrison Obituary

Billy Wayne Garrison, 85, went home to be with his Savior on Thursday, October 11, 2018, at his home in Notasulga, Alabama, after a long illness where he was surrounded and supported by his family until the end.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years Susie Boone Garrison, his daughters Susan Godfrey (Wayne) and Melanie D’Amato, grandson Jordan D’Amato, granddaughter Renee Bryars (Bryant), sister Loretta Moseley (Barry), brother James Strong, brother-in-law and best friend Art Allum, several sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his mother Louise Strong, step-father James Charles "JC" Strong, sisters Anita Ward, Rebecca (Becky) Allum, Martha Hill, brother Paul Strong, and son-in-law Jay D’Amato.
Billy was born in Margret, Alabama, on March 23, 1933, and attended school there. He worked in a coal mine, logging, and a chicken processing plant before enlisting in the US NAVY. Billy had a very distinguished career serving as an Electrician on Mine Sweepers, Destroyers, and Nuclear Power Submarines. He was also on the staff of the "Commander Submarine Forces Atlantic Fleet." He was selected for an elite engineering program at Purdue University for exceptional enlisted personnel. While serving on Submarines, he became the first enlisted person to be qualified as the “Engineering Officer of the Watch” on a Nuclear-Powered NAVAL Ship. He obtained the highest enlisted grade in the Navy, Electricians Mate Master Chief, qualified in Submarines, EMCM(SS) as well as several medals and letters of accommodation for his outstanding service and many accomplishments.
Upon his retirement from the Navy, he was employed by the Carolina Power and Light Company as a Quality Assurance Engineer in North and South Carolina. Billy next returned to Notasulga where he farmed, built custom cabinets and worked at the Post Office.
Billy was a member and Past Master of Notasulga Lodge 119 A&AM. Member of the Scottish Rite Masons, York Rite Masons, Shriners, The Fleet Reserve Association, VFW, and American Legion. He was a past member of the Notasulga Town Council. Billy was a member of Liberty United Methodist Church.

Memorial Service will be held at Liberty United Methodist Church in Notasulga, AL, at 2:00 PM on Monday, October 15, 2018.
Burial will be at Notasulga Memory Gardens directly following.
