Virginia Bowie Obituary

Virginia Pearson Bowie (Gran), of Montgomery, AL, left this Earth to be with her Lord on July 25, 2018.  She was born in Lagrange, GA on April 9, 1924.

Her early childhood and formative years were spent in Columbus, GA, where she was raised in the Anne Elizabeth Shepherd Orphanage.  After graduation from Columbus High School, she met and later married James C. Pearson, Jr. of Reeltown, AL on Sept 6, 1941.

Virginia relocated from Columbus to her in laws family farm in Reeltown, AL.  Like so many other young couples of that time, World War II intervened in their life and James volunteered for service in the US Navy and served as a submariner in the Pacific until the war’s end.

After the war, they quickly moved to the Opelika – Auburn area seeking greater economic opportunity.   Their home in Auburn provided the base for working and parenting four children.  Fundamental to that effort was the regular attendance at church in both Opelika and Auburn.

Virginia is survived by her four children: Sandra Pearson Hill (Robert L.), Deborah Pearson Almon (Reneau P.), Michael T. Pearson (Jan), Kenneth L. Pearson (Susie).  She was blessed to be the grandmother of eight grandchildren and great grandmother of eight great grandchildren.

She was predeceased by both spouses:  James C. Pearson, Jr. on May 18, 1980. in Opelika, AL, and Robert G. Bowie on July 2, 1990, in Montgomery, AL.

Virginia was a strong Christian and had a life long record of attending the Church of Christ in Opelika and Auburn and after her relocation to Montgomery, she became a member of the Landmark Church of Christ. Landmark Church will host her funeral service at 11:30 AM on July 27, 2018.

Visitation will be 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM.

Corbitt’s Funeral Home of Tuskegee, AL is in charge of arrangements.

Interment will be by private graveside service at Reeltown Cemetery.
