Mellrea Pittman King

Mellrea Pittman King, a resident of Tallassee, AL, passed away January 5, 2018, at the age of 88.  She was born July 7, 1929, in Jackson Co., Florida.

In 1950, Mellrea was transferred by A&P from the Dothan store to the new store in Auburn; then, in 1951 she was transferred to the new A&P in Tuskegee where she rented a room at John Buford and Corinne Davis Parker's home.  Their nephew Roy Parker and his girlfriend (later wife) Ann Strickland Parker set up a double date for Mellrea with his cousin Lewis King.  They married February 10, 1951.  Mellrea and Lewis worked together for years at Superior Gas, Inc.; later at King Auto Sales; and King and Holt Auto in Tallassee, AL; then, at King's Auto in Notasulga, AL, until Lewis' death. 

Mellrea is survived by her daughter Reba (Mike) Johnson; a granddaughter Lori (Marcus) Mayton; a grandson Shane (Kim) Johnson; sister-in-law Rosemary King; nieces Wanda (Warren) Manire, Martha Bowen, Kathy Pittman, and Pam (Shawn) Freeman; newphews Tommy Lee (Andrea) King, and Richard (Lisa) King; 8 great nieces; 7 great nephews; 1 great-great nephew; and 3 great-great nieces.  

She was preceded in death by her parents Julius Chalker Pittman of Marianna, FL, and Ruby Lucy Grantham Pittman of Ashford, AL; husband James Lewis King; brothers Hicks Pittman and Mitchell (Mitchell Dora) Pittman; sister Dorothy (Elmer) Paul; nephews Sammy Joe Pittman, Donny Paul, and John Allen King; a brother-in-law Tommy Earl King; and father and mother-in-law Elvin and Willie Ruth Hughes King. 

The family wants to thank friends and family for their love and prayers; the sitters Ruth Buckhannon and Kayla Riley; and the Lake Martin Hospice of Wetumpka, AL; Dr. Melissa Thompson; and nurses Christy Segrest and Tiffany Leonard.  

There will be a private service at Liberty United Methodist Church, Notasulga, AL, Sunday, January 7, 2018.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  Pallbearers will be Tommy Lee King, Richard King, Destin King, Shawn Freeman, Shane Johnson, James Garner, and Josh Garner.
