Martha Ann Tally Torbert

Martha Ann Tally Torbert, 91, of Society Hill, Alabama, died Sunday, April 7, 2019, at her home. Visitation will be held Tuesday, April 9, 2019, from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at Society Hill United Methodist Church. Funeral services will be Wednesday, April 10, 2019, at 11:00 A.M. at Society Hill United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Society Hill Cemetery. Mrs. Torbert is survived by her sister Mary Bufford; sister-in-law Mrs. Henry Allen “Jeanette” Torbert; her daughter Deryl Horne (Felton); her son-in-law John Thomas Ingram Jr. (Brenda); her daughter-in-law Sharon Torbert; her eight grandchildren Casey Horne (Fawn), Brandon Horne, Dee Ann Ingram Williams (Ryan), Ashlyn Torbert Fordham (Jon), Jared Horne (Haley), Charles “Stephen” Torbert III, John “Thomas” Ingram III (Maggie), and Abby Torbert (Wes Gibson); nine great grandchildren; and many wonderful caretakers and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents Henry David and Bertha Tally, her brother-in-law Henry Allen Torbert Sr., her husband Charles Stephen Torbert Sr., her daughter Janice Ingram, and her son Charles Stephen “Steve” Torbert Jr. She graduated from Alabama Polytechnic Institute (Auburn University) in 1949 with a Bachelor of Science in Education. She married Mr. Charles Stephen Torbert Sr. in December of 1950 and they were happily married for 59 years. Mrs. Torbert was a lifelong and active member of Society Hill United Methodist Church. Flowers will be accepted, or a memorial may be made to Society Hill United Methodist Church.
