John Thomas Dyson, II, age 73, a resident of Fairburn, Georgia, died at Southwest Christian Hospice in Union City, Georgia, on May 18, 2018. Graveside services will be held on Monday, May 21, 2018 at 2:00 P.M. CDT at the Tuskegee Cemetery in Tuskegee, Alabama. Family and friends will meet at Corbitt’s Funeral Home, 205 N. Maple Street, Tuskegee at 1:00 P.M. CDT.
John was born in Auburn, Alabama, at Drake Medical Center on April 25, 1945. He was predeceased by his parents W. G. Dyson and Elizabeth R. Dyson. He is survived by his brother William Dyson (Delores) and his nephew Michael Dyson (Leslie).
John was a 1963 graduate of Tuskegee High School. He graduated from the University of West Alabama in 1968 with a Bachelor of Science in Music Education. He was band director at Brunner Middle School in Fort Walton Beach, Florida, and at Hazlehurst High School in Hazlehurst, Georgia.
Later, he became a controller for several hotel management companies. His hotel career ended with the Davidson Hotel Company where he was assigned to the Doubletree Hotel in Atlanta, Georgia, as business manager.
After his retirement, John served for ten years on the Board of Tara Winds Community Band, and for the last seven of these years he served as Chairman of the Board. He was an avid “War Eagle” fan and he loved all forms of music, as well as NASCAR racing.
