JOHNSON, Elizabeth Louise "Betty Lou" Campbell, 85, reposed on June 15, 2019, after a courageous battle with a long illness. Her devotion to God and the support of her family strengthened her to the end. Betty Lou was born to the late William A. and Lorene Dudley Campbell of Tuskegee, Alabama on December 21, 1933. After completing her first year at Sullins College in Bristol, Virginia, Betty Lou, like her mother, graduated from the University of Alabama and became an elementary school teacher. From an early age, she was involved in a devotion to and appreciation of classical and sacred choral music, learning to play both piano and organ and serving as organist and choir director for numerous congregations in Alabama, North Carolina, Georgia and Virginia. After meeting David Glenn Johnson Jr. in high school, their long-distance courtship continued through college, and the two were married on August 9, 1958. They were blessed with two children, David Glenn Johnson III and Betsy Ann Johnson (Hunroe). Betty Lou is survived by her husband, David Glenn Johnson Jr.; her son David Glenn Johnson III and his wife, Frances; her daughter, Betsy Ann Johnson (Hunroe); and her grandchildren, Matthew Carmichael Johnson, Hannah Gabrielle Johnson and Sarah Campbell Hunroe. She was preceded in death by her brother, William A. Campbell Jr.; her parents; and her granddaughter, Elizabeth Carolyn Johnson. Her funeral will be held at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church in Richmond, Virginia at 11 a.m. on Thursday, June 20, 2019, and she will be laid to rest with members of her family in Tuskegee Cemetery in Tuskegee, Alabama at 3 p.m. on Sunday, June 23, 2019, with a reception to follow both occasions. The family gratefully declines flowers and instead requests that any donations be contributed to a fund which would support music education either in schools or in churches.
