Carlas Gilmore Segrest, 73, of Shorter, AL, died Saturday, August 11, 2018, at UAB Hospital. Carlas was born on March 2, 1945, in Shannon, MS. She was raised in the Valley Grove community and graduated from Pontotoc High School in 1963. She worked 33 years for BellSouth and retired in 1996. She enjoyed quilting and gardening, but most of all she loved spending time with her grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents Eddie Gilmore and Mauvleen Coggins Fleming, as well as her sister Brenda Gilmore Raines. She is survived by her husband Chan Segrest of Shorter, her daughters Tona Montgomery Justice (John) of Madison, MS, and Melissa Blue Peterson (Derek) of Helena, AL; her step-daughters Sandra Kay Segrest Conner (Jack) of Shorter, and Christine Segrest of Shorter; as well as four grandchildren Leighton Justice, Carter Peterson, Avery Peterson, and Shelby Conner. She was a member of the Methodist faith. Funeral services will be Wednesday, August 15, 2018, at 2:00 P.M. at Bradford’s Chapel United Methodist Church with Rev. Jim Meadows officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be John Justice, Derek Peterson, Jack Conner, Philip Segrest, Mike Segrest, and Clinton Segrest. Visitation will be Tuesday, August 14 from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at Corbitt’s Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Bradford’s Chapel United Methodist Church.
