Barbara Gasses Payne

Barbara Gasses Payne, 81, a long time resident of Notasulga, died Thursday, June 27, 2019, at Bethany House.  Funeral services will be Saturday, June 29, 2019, at Notasulga United Methodist Church at 3:00 P.M. with Mike Whitman officiating.  Burial will follow in Notasulga Memory Gardens.  Visitation will be prior to the service at the church beginning at 2:00 P.M.  Mrs. Payne is survived by her daughters Renee (Mark) Freeman and Luann (Lon) Simpson; her grandchildren Drew Sikes, Kyle (Molly) Sikes, Dima Freeman, Dasha Freeman, Joseph Freeman, Jayne Freeman, Sophia Simpson, and Lily Simpson; her sisters Doris (Ben) Moore, Rochelle Langford, and Ronnie Bowles; her sister-in-law Beth Gasses; many nieces and nephews; and her loving caregivers Anita Waters and Dian Borum.  She was preceded in death by her husband Andrew Jackson Payne and her brother Arthur Gasses.  Mrs. Payne spent the first part of her career as a Home Economics teacher at Taylor County High School in Georgia where she made a lifelong impact on her students.  She ended her career retiring from Auburn University where she was once recognized as Employee of the Month.  Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Bethany House.
