Michael William Gates

Michael William Gates, 79, of Notasulga, died Friday, March 1, 2024, at Baptist Medical Center East. Funeral services will be Monday, March 4, 2024, at Woodland Presbyterian Church at 2:00 p.m. with Col. John Eidsmoe officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be prior to the service beginning at 1:00 p.m.

Mr. Gates is survived by his wife of 49 years Susan Gates; his daughter Kristi Gates; his brothers-in-law Wayne (Jerry) Casaday and Sanford Adams; his sister-in-law Faye Gates; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Lee and Vera Gates, his sister Martha Adams, and his brothers Charles Gates and Jimmy (Barbara) Gates. 

Mr. Gates proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War as a Morse code interceptor. He was a huge Auburn fan. He served as an elder at Woodland Presbyterian Church. He spent his career in law enforcement in various capacities though mostly with the Alabama Department of Corrections. 
 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Parkinson’s Association of Alabama.
