Howard Lee Griggs Obituary

Howard Lee Griggs, a lifelong resident of Little Texas, Alabama, went to be the with Lord on February 10, 2024.  Howard was born on February 29, 1944, to parents Willie Lee and Willie Clyde Griggs.  Howard graduated from Tuskegee High School in 1962. After graduation he opened Howard Griggs Trucking, Inc. which he ran until retiring in 2008.

Howard enjoyed life to the fullest and had many friends.  He spent much time at the ball fields watching his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren play sports. He loved helping those less fortunate especially young children and the elderly people of his community. His greatest passion was drag racing. Howard was known to many as Willie-Get-It. He won awards on the drag strip from 1962-2017. On March 19, 2017, Howard received the Legend of the South Lifetime Achievement Award at the Phenix City Drag Strip. 

Howard is preceded in death by his parents Willie Lee Griggs and Willie Clyde Griggs and a brother Jimmy Donald Griggs.  His survivors include his loving wife Judie W. Griggs; brothers Gene Griggs (Alice), Monroe Griggs; sisters-in-law Annette Holliday, Carol Scott (Ernie); daughter Jane Adams (Hal); sons Terry Lee Griggs (Mary Beth), Buck Noble (Beth), and Philip Noble (Michele); grandchildren Ashley Powell (Josh), Emily Pruitt (Jason), Tripp Adams, Samantha Lewis (Tyler), Anna Schell (Matt), Abby Cannon (Zach), Lilly Noble, Cole Noble (Maggie), Josie Noble, Katelyn Harris (Tyler); great grandchildren Sawyer and Barrett Powell, Ansley and Landon Pruitt, Parker and Brooks Schell, Will and Aneyli Lewis, Ridge Cannon, and Holden and Hattie Harris.  Howard is also survived by a family of close, loving friends who will feel his loss terribly.

Visitation for Howard will be Wednesday, February 14, 2024, at The Little Texas Tabernacle from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm. Funeral services will immediately follow at 2:00 pm. Pallbearers will be Randy Adair, Daryl Guess, Billy Tally, Buz Yarbrough, Johnny Ezell, Brian Allen, Michael Cardwell, Wesley Capps, and Earl Brown. Honorary pallbearers will be all of the Willie-Git-It Racing buddies, the Torch 85 Breakfast Crew, and the Hardee’s Breakfast Crew.
